There were many survivors and victims that had to face the Hurricane.  The survivors of the hurricane have plenty of stories about

Hurricane Katrina. A few types of art forms were used to give others a feel for what they went through during the hurricane. Some of

these art forms were writings, paintings, music and documenaries.

Survivors: Their Stories, Their Memories, The Struggle

Stories:

There were many stories that have been told by survivors by the hurricane. The stories are very sad, and deal with the struggle they faced. They were stuck waiting for hours for authorities to arrive. Survivors of the hurricane lost all they had, and all the assets they once owned were demolished. Some of the survivors even lost loved ones.

This is what a few of the survivors have to say, they are ones that were the strongest during the time of the hurricane. Here are some quotes from Hurricane Katrina survivors that I found interesting. These quotes show some of the emotion and struggle some of them faced.

Marty Desei, the owner of a Super 8 Motel, recalled how “People are just casually walking in and filling up garbage bags and walking off like they’re Santa Claus”  (qtd. in NY Times 1).  Survivors were doing this to loot from stores, because they lost everything they had. They were also hungry and very thirsty. Another survivor, Joy Schovest, recounted how “We grabbed a lady and pulled her out the window and then we swam with the current. It was terrifying; you should have seen the cars floating around us. We had to push them away when we were trying to swim” (qtd. NY Times 2).

A woman named Vanessa Hammons, a dental assistant with a 1 year old, suffered severely. She stayed with her daughter in a campground until they started running low on money. Hammons said "I only brought three pairs of clothes, because I didn't expect to be gone for so long, I couldn't access my account until the day after Labor Day. I had two dollars to my name. I couldn't do anything. All the ATM machines were out. All the credit cards weren't working." (Guillot 1) She had financial help from friends to live in an apartment for a while, and when her bank account shrunk down to 200 dollars, she lost health care for her daughter.

The survivors and victims were very brave, and strong during the whole experience. There are books of painters or artists painting their emotions and feelings of what happened from the hurricane. These paintings would show the heartache they faced, and their will to survive, some of these artists stayed in Louisiana after the hurricane to paint what they see from life.

Paintings:

Survivors and witnesses all over the world got a glimpse of how bad Hurricane Katrina was. Artists that witnessed the hurricane, or survived the hurricane expressed their feelings or emotions through paintings. These paintings showed the struggle many had to endure in order to ensure safety, and not get swept away by the storm. These paintings show emotions of losing family members, all they have, and facing betrayel of authorities.

If you are interested in looking at more great paintings about Hurricane Katrina, there are books out there about it. The book is called "The Katrina Diaries."
