How Do I Feel About What Happened With Hurricane Katrina?

Hurricane Katrina, is important because it was one of the biggest hurricanes to ever hit the Gulf. When everyone found out the levees were going to break, everyone knew it was about to get ugly, and it did get worse. When I was younger I knew a little about the horrors of the massive hurricane. Now that I am older I want to further educate others and myself about this massive tragedy that left the whole state of Louisiana in turmoil for years. As far as I can remember, since I was a young boy that was one of the biggest natural disasters I’ve ever seen. When I was younger I lived down in the suburban parts of Georgia. Growing up, I feel like it was there close to me, and it was a big tragedy, but I never wrapped my mind fully around it.

Hurricane Katrina, is important, because many people up North don’t know how bad it affected the South, many people migrated over to Georga for jobs.  I remember when it happened gas stations ran out of gas for 2 to 3 days, because the Gulf is where they pumped all the gasoline, and oil. I feel it’s an emotional topic, for many reasons; the first aspect I feel it hurt was the economy, to a large degree. Many people lost jobs that provided for themselves. or the family. I feel very bad for all those who lost their jobs, houses, belongings and all they worked for throughout their lifetime. That is one of the saddest parts of all natural disasters. Some of the people had the help of organizations throughout the United States, but not everyone had that luxury, so I feel it’s emotional to see that happen to someone on so many levels. Many people went homeless from the hurricane, and that was rough seeing people on the television bringing pictures of their family with them, and a few of their belongings. It was also emotional seeing houses floating all over the streets of Louisiana. Seeing that was sad when I was younger, and I never comprehended how rough it was until I got older. I heard some stories, about some of the people that experienced it, after the hurricane their whole life went downhill, and it completely changed their lives.

I feel many people were hopeless, and unsure on what to do. I couldn't even imagine living in a Super Dome for weeks. The experince I feel that is a life changing event that you will never forget.  It's sad to me also FEMA, made so many people struggle during the Hurricane. I feel they didn't do their job to the best of their ability that they could have. They have changed the way they responded to natural disasters , like they did in Hurricane Sandy. It's just unfortunate it took so long for them to get their operations straightened out.
